Mercedes G-Class getting facelifted in 2016, to be sold until 2027

A new report is indicating the boxy Mercedes-Benz G-Class will receive a major facelift in 2016 that will keep the vehicle on market until 2027.

In an extensive report about the SUV’s future, Car Magazine says the version for private individuals will undergo a number of significant changes in 2016 that will leave the model on market until well into the next decade.

First, the width will increase by 100mm to approximately 1860mm, a thing we have already reported before. More importantly, the G-Class will carry over its boxy shape with slab-sided flanks, while the roof will come down a bit. Minor drag-cutting modifications on the front are expected, while adaptive extra-cost LED headlamps and miniature cameras to control the latest generation assistance systems could also be offered.

In terms of engines, the renewed G-Class may lose the optional V12 engine and gain two new 6-cylinder units. Base engines will be a 2.9-liter diesel with 313 bhp (233 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) and a 3.0-liter petrol straight six with 367bhp (274 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft). On the V8 side there will be a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that develops approximately 460 bhp (343 kW) and the range-topping 5.5-litre V8 G63 AMG with 571 bhp (426 kW) and 800 Nm (590lb-ft).
