Hyundai has introduced a special edition of its popular hatchback, the Grand i10, in Germany. Called i10 Sport, the car has been targeted at young buyers and competes with other carslike the Volkswagen Up!. It has been exclusively made for the German market and retails at EUR 13,990 (Rs 11.4 lakh).
The Hyundai i10 Sport gets cosmetic upgrades like a body kit, LED daytime running lights and racy red and black decals all over the body. The red and black theme is carried forward inside the car and it also gets partial leather upholstery.
Besides the cosmetic enhancements, Hyundai has also tinkered with the mechanicals of the car. The suspension has been lowered by 20mm and the car rides on eight spoke 17-inch alloy wheels. Under the hood, the i10 Sport will continue to use the four-cylinder 1.2-litre petrol engine, which produces 87bhp and 120 Nm of torque. The engine sends power to the front wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox.
Unlike in the Indian market, Hyundai phased out the existing i10 model in Europe in favour of the new Grand i10, which is sold as ‘i10’. In India, the Grand i10 slots in perfectly between the i10 and the i20. Styled along the lines of Hyundai’s fluidic design philosophy, it is one of the best looking cars in the segment. Several features like climate control, rear parking sensors, steering mounted audio controls, an integrated music system with 1 GB internal memory and most importantly, the rear AC vents make the Grand i10 one of the best value for money offerings. It rivals other in the B segment hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Chevrolet Beat, Nissan Micra and the Renault Pulse.
