The Honda CBR650F will be launched in India in the final quarter of the 2015-16 financial year, which means that it could be launched anytime between December 2015 to March 2016. This is a better time estimate than the previous update where we only knew that it would be launched ‘sometime in 2015′. You can read more about the company’s soon-to-be halo product in India below.
Honda’s showpiece at their 2014 Auto Expo pavilion was the new Honda Activa 125, but there was an interesting bike kept close to the main stage; the Honda CBR650F. The CBR650F is, like smaller cousin CBR250R, a bike that can be ridden in different ways.
It is sporty, with good performance and nifty handling to appeal to the racing fan in you. It has a good riding position and the frame and suspension are not too hard for daily riding or long distance riding. The engine has been tuned for a multitude of roles with a wide torque band to help the rider explore the limits of the bike.
Honda has brought a unit of the bike to India from Thailand for R&D purposes, which means that the launch should happen sometime in 2015.
Displacement wise the bike competes against the Hyosung GT650R (Rs. 4.8 Lakh) and the Kawasaki Ninja 650R (Rs. 5 Lakh)
Styling wise, the CBR650F does not stand out from the crowd at first glance. The bike looks like any other bike of its class, with a full-fairing, a compact frontal area, a slim rear and a pronounced tank. The solid paint options also make the a bike a bit dull. look closely and design elements show up, the front fairing design is angular, bits of the in-line four-cylinder engine and the four-into-one exhaust peek out for good effect. The compactness at the front gives the bike a sporty look.
The short exhaust adds a bit of style while the short but tall tail adds to the forward leaning style of the bike.
An upright seating position makes the bike a breeze to drive in traffic and on long hauls. The clip-on handlebars help the rider adjust them to his/her comfort. The 650cc in-line, four-cylinder engine develops 87 BHP @ 11,000 RPM and 62 Nm @ 8,000 RPM. The low and mid-range torque helps in riding around town or keeping the bike at a steady pace on the highways, sacrificing high-RPM power and is connected to a six-speed transmission. The twin-spar steel frame is designed to be stiff enough for a sporty ride but not be too stiff to hamper everyday riding. 41mm forks at the front and a mono-shock with spring-preload adjustability keep the bike handle well without breaking the rider’s back. Braking duties are handles with twin-piston calipers on a 320-mm disc at front and a single caliper on a 240-mm disc at the rear. The bike gets a 180-mm section tyre at the rear and a 120-mm tyre at the front. Tank capacity is 17-litres.
