SUPER OFF-ROADER GIVES COPS 700 HORSEPOWER

When a tuner takes another tuner’s tuned ride and cranks the tune even higher, you have the vehicle BRABUS unveiled at the Dubai International Motor Show.
BRABUS, a high-end German tuning company, is supplying Dubai police with a go-anywhere vehicle that definitely has the ability to go anywhere -- in a hurry. It’s called the B63S-700 WIDESTAR and it’s based on the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG.
The high-performance off-roader is powered by a 5.5L bi-turbo V8 engine that puts out 700 horsepower and 700 lb. ft. of torque that can propel the all-wheel-drive WIDESTAR from zero to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. Top speed is 240 km/h.
Other BRABUS touches include a two-setting ride control suspension and valve-controlled sport exhaust system along with 23-inch wheels, underbody protection, special bumper designs, front and rear spoilers, unique fender flares, door add-ons and LED side step illumination.
Aside from monster power, police vehicles are different in Dubai than they are here. The interior carries Premium appointments even to leather edging around the black floor mats.
The powerful police unit will do double duty -- in regular policing duty on Dubai streets and as an educational tool to carry the message that safe tuning and driving pleasure don’t need to be mutually exclusive.
As in Germany, where a program called TUNE IT! SAFE! has become an information platform for all things related to tuning, sporty accessories and general traffic safety, the initiative aims to raise awareness in Dubai to ensure safety is not forgotten when it comes to automobile tuning.
In Germany, the program runs under the umbrella of the ministry for transport, construction and urban development with sponsorship from the Association of Automobile Tuners and a number of other sponsors. It aims to promote awareness of safety among tuners and to provide educational advice.
